Multifocal Lenses
A Multifocal Lens uses multiple visual zones that are built into the lens
itself to provide vision at various distances. It's similar to the rings of a target,
with some rings dedicated to distance vision and other rings for near vision. A multifocal
lens is similar to having a bifocal or trifocal lens inside the eye with your brain adjusting
to select the different ring.
For most patients, the Multifocal Lens delivers excellent near
and distance vision, potentially without the need for reading glasses or bifocals. In fact,
with this increase in vision quality, many patients have been able to pass the visual acuity
portion of the driver's license exam.
Multifocal Lenses are only partially covered by Medicare
or private insurance since selection is elective at this time.
