Monofocal Lenses

Simulated vision with a
Monofocal Lens
In the past, all replacement lenses were a type called a Monofocal Lens, also called a basic lens.
A Monofocal Lens is a fixed lens that doesn't move. It is designed to deliver improved vision at just
one distance (typically for distance vision).
Monofocal Lenses provide a vast improvement over vision with
a cataract, but the potential drawback is that after surgery, you will probably need to wear glasses
for near and intermediate vision, even if you didn't wear glasses before surgery.
The cost of Monofocal Lenses is typically covered by Medicare or private insurance as part of the cataract procedure.
